President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo officially inaugurated the Ciawi Dam in Bogor, West Java. The dam is a key component of the government's strategy to mitigate flooding in Jakarta, a persistent challenge for the capital city.
During the inauguration, Jokowi expressed his hope that the Ciawi Dam, working in conjunction with the Sukamahi Dam, would substantially reduce the impact of flooding in Jakarta. He stated that these two dams are projected to decrease flood risks by up to 30.6%, with the potential to further mitigate flooding as river normalization efforts in Jakarta continue.
The President emphasized the importance of these combined efforts. He noted that while the dams play a crucial role in upstream flood management, downstream efforts such as river normalization are equally critical to achieve comprehensive flood control.
The Ciawi Dam is designed to hold back excess water during periods of heavy rainfall, regulating the flow downstream and reducing the likelihood of rivers overflowing in Jakarta. This infrastructure project represents a significant investment in protecting the capital city and improving the lives of its residents.
