President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo officially inaugurated the Ciawi Dam in Bogor, West Java, on Friday. The dam is a crucial component of a flood mitigation strategy for Jakarta, aiming to significantly reduce the impact of heavy rainfall.
The Ciawi Dam works in conjunction with the nearby Sukamahi Dam, also recently completed. Together, these two dams are expected to regulate water flow and hold back excess water that would otherwise contribute to flooding downstream in the capital city.
During the inauguration, the President highlighted the importance of the project, stating that the Ciawi Dam and the Sukamahi Dam are expected to reduce flooding in Jakarta by up to 30.6%. He emphasized the long-standing issue of flooding in Jakarta and the significant investment made in these dams to address the problem. The project reflects the government's commitment to investing in long-term infrastructure solutions for disaster mitigation.
The construction of the Ciawi Dam involved significant effort and resources, reflecting a concerted effort to find effective solutions to the recurrent flooding issues faced by Jakarta. The dam's capacity and strategic location are expected to make a tangible difference in protecting communities and infrastructure downstream.
The President expressed hope that with the completion of these two dams, the impact of future flooding in Jakarta will be significantly lessened, offering improved safety and security for residents and businesses.
