President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo officially inaugurated the Ciawi Dam in Bogor Regency, West Java. This dam is a crucial component of a broader flood control strategy aimed at mitigating the impact of flooding in Jakarta. The President highlighted the dam's significance in reducing flood risks in the capital city.
The Ciawi Dam boasts a capacity to retain up to 6.05 million cubic meters of water. This makes it a substantial water retention facility capable of holding back a large volume of water during periods of intense rainfall. It stands as the first dry dam not only in Indonesia, but also in Southeast Asia. Construction of the Ciawi Dam commenced in 2016 and represents a significant infrastructure investment.
The inauguration of the Ciawi Dam follows the earlier inauguration of the Sukamahi Dam. These two dams work in conjunction as part of a comprehensive flood control system. The President emphasized the importance of these combined efforts in addressing Jakarta's long-standing flood issues. He further noted that additional flood control projects are planned and underway to enhance the overall effectiveness of the system.
The Ciawi Dam is expected to significantly reduce flooding in Jakarta by holding back water during heavy rainfall. It is part of a larger flood control system that includes the Sukamahi Dam and other ongoing projects.
