President Joko Widodo officially inaugurated the Ciawi Dam in Bogor, West Java. The dam, a significant component of a broader flood control strategy for Jakarta, is expected to substantially reduce flooding in the capital city. Built at a cost of Rp 1.3 trillion, the dam has a capacity to hold 6.05 million cubic meters of water.
During the inauguration, the President emphasized the importance of the dam in mitigating the impact of extreme weather and heavy rainfall that often lead to flooding in Jakarta. He explained that the Ciawi Dam, working in conjunction with the Sukamahi Dam, will help control water flow and reduce the risk of flooding downstream.
The President also highlighted the prolonged construction period of the dam, noting that the project had been planned for a considerable time. He expressed his satisfaction that the dam is now operational and ready to serve its purpose.
The Ciawi Dam is expected to play a crucial role in protecting Jakarta from future floods, offering a much-needed solution to a recurring problem that affects millions of residents and disrupts economic activity.
